Craig Wright Cannot Unlock The 1.1 Billion BTC

It’s been recently revealed that a judge gave Craig Wright until February 3 to access the $9.2 million worth of BTC said to be locked in a Tulip Trust which is an encrypted document that holds the keys to the BTC that he and Kleiman mined together.

Both of their cryptographic signatures are required to unlock it.

A few days ago, we revealed that Wright said that a bonded courier who has the keys that can unlock the encrypted Tulip Trust would be arriving this month.

Until the courier makes an appearance, he said that the trust is not accessible.

So basically, it seemed that he was just about to get the private keys in order to access the stash of crypto. But for those who know all about his maneuvers, it was pretty clear that such a thing cannot possibly happen.

Wright updates the status of the private keys and more

He now reportedly issued an update on the status of these private keys and the ability to access BTC.

The deadline until he had to turn over the 1.1 million BTC is February 3rd, as we said above.

Wright said that until the appearance of the courier, the Tulip Trust, which contains the BTC, still remains inaccessible.

The Daily Hodl notes that “The list arrived and Wright supplied it to Kleiman’s estate, filing a notice of compliance with the U.S. District Court of Southern Florida on January 14th. The list contained 16,404 Bitcoin addresses.”

Andres Rivero, a partner at Rivero Mestre law firm, told Decrypt that Wright has no access.

“The file that he’s received did not include private keys,” he said. Rivero also explained that Wright did not claim he would possess the private keys.

Decrypto says, “Wright still expects that he will receive the keys at a later date. Rivero said the keys might come either whole or split into parts, but declined to discuss further the particulars around who has the keys and when they might arrive.”
